Teaching with Technology: Blogging in the Classroom
My students need access to technology. Two tablets would be a great start and would help out with a lot of different projects, including our class blog.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Work Hard and Be Nice to People-- that is the motto of our 5th grade class, and every day we strive to live, teach, and learn by those simple words.
My 5th grade students, who range in age from 9 to 12 years old, are great kids with a variety of interests and personalities.
The commonality among them is that they are caring, inquisitive, and excited to learn.
I teach at a low income, Title 1 school; many of my students are on free and reduced lunch. This has not stopped our students from obtaining the title of a California Distinguished School, or from performing well on standardized tests. This is due to a wonderful, dedicated staff, and to students and families who care about education.
My kiddos are bright and eager to learn, and they deserve to have every opportunity to become college ready and to continue to grow as innovative, creative thinkers.
My Project
In today's society, it is important for students to be comfortable with and adept at using technology.
The introduction of tablets into our classroom will prove useful for a number of different projects. We have very limited technology resources in our classroom, with just one student computer available for 32 students. Many of our class projects require online research, so portable tablets that can be shared by groups of students will enable more kids to have access to online information.
We have a class blog that students, in the role of News Reporters, prepare, write, and publish posts to on a continual basis. The tablets will not only be useful to the News Reporters who are writing and publishing the stories, but to the students who access the blog to read those stories and interact with them by commenting and taking polls. All students, even non reporters, are required to submit guest posts throughout the year. The tablets will allow this to happen.
By donating to my classroom, you will be enabling my students to exercise their research skills, and to practice their writing skills.
It is such a powerful motivator for kids to see their words published, and to share what they have created with others. Our classroom blog is a perfect place for them to celebrate and share each other's writing; it is a place where they are encouraged to find their voice and share it with the world.
Thank you!
