My students need a computer tablet for creating digital portfolios of their artwork to share with the world and a protective case to prevent damage if little hands slip.
My students are excited to come to art every week and work on their projects. Our art room motto is "if you make a mistake, make it great!" and I often hear students encouraging their classmates with the reminder.
I teach about 775 students in PreKindergarten-6th grade between two buildings in the same neighborhood.
We tend to have a very positive atmosphere at school even with struggles students are sometimes facing at home. Nearly 65% of the students in my Title 1 schools qualify for free and reduced lunch but whenever the school is raising money for charity or collecting food for the local food bank, the generosity shown by our families is amazing.
My Project
The tablet will be used primarily to allow students to photograph their finished artwork to publish on Artsonia. Artsonia is an online art gallery that takes student work beyond the classroom walls to share with the world. Students will also be able to use the Artsonia app to write and add artist statements to their work, helping them communicate their ideas and show their learning.
A tablet would be a huge time-saving device in the process of publishing artwork!
When students are able to be involved in publishing, the whole process will happen much more quickly, enabling us to better communicate what we are doing and learning, and advocate for our art program. One of my favorite parts of using Artsonia is when "fan club" members can leave comments for our artists. The students will be able to publish more art and receive more encouragement, building confidence.
