Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our community reading seems to be under valued. The days of going to the library or experiencing a good book is left to teachers and not families. I see students reacting positively to literature and it encourages me to expand the classroom library.

The school in which I teach services a very large community rich with various cultures of Native American, Hispanic and Mexican heritage.

Most of the students come from low income families that do not have the resources to provide a rich home library. My students are very diverse in academic ability and personality. They all have curiosity in common. They are curious about life, people, math, science, geography and BOOKS!

My Project

Because my students are so curious about their world I would like to give them nonfiction and fiction books that will help them use their imagination and also give them information about the world we live in. I see my students reading from these selected libraries every day, reading, learning and increasing their oral reading fluency better preparing them for 3rd grade.

Books are "gold" to me and my students.

They take us places and open our imaginations to a bigger world. They help us make the school day fun and interesting. It fosters good writing. When my students would rather read then go to recess I know that they love books and I want to give them as much as I can. Please help us increase our class library and fill it with fun and interesting books!
