Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach bilingual kindergarten in a district with many children who are considered "at-risk" because of their family income. Although they are considered "at-risk," all they truly need is exposure to academics. I believe that with these iPads, my students can get the exposure they need to succeed.

My students are very loving and thirsty for knowledge!

They lack many resources at home and do not get many opportunities for learning outside of school. Many of my students come to school lacking fine motor skills and simple vocabulary. All of my students are eligible for free lunch, and almost all of my students come in early for free breakfast as well. Despite the challenges that many of my students face at home, they come to school eager to learn and ready for the day. Many students come in not knowing their letters, colors, or numbers. With help from apps on the iPads, I think that they can get the extra practice they need to master the skills they need in kindergarten.

My Project

I will use these iPads while I am working with small reading groups. I will have an iPad center where students will use the apps on there to help them write their letters and numbers, learn their colors, and play games that will help them with reading. I will teach my students how to take good care of the iPads and also purchase very protective cases so that they last. I believe it will greatly increase their abilities to achieve what is expected of them in kindergarten, therefore being able to achieve more in first grade and beyond.

These iPads will help my students love learning.

The apps that we will use on them will improve their fine motor skills, their writing, reading, and math. My students will get that extra boost that they really need in order to succeed in school. Without the achievement gap from kindergarten, they will be ready to start first grade with all of the skills that they need, keeping them on target for the rest of their years of learning.
