Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an after-thought, or an event."
My students are typical 10-11 year olds...they love technology.
However, my students are mostly lower class and do not always have access to such technologies. Our school is Title 1 and does its very best to supply materials to help close the gap with our struggling learners, however, the need is always there for more. Some of my students struggle to have their basic needs met at home and using computers at school is a luxury. Using technology in the classroom is a sure-fire way to keep them engaged and excited about learning. Teachers at my school do understand the growing need to utilize technology effectively in the classroom, but our resources are limited.
My Project
Having a tablet in our classroom for eBooks, educational apps/games, and student-centered research will change the way my students work and learn. My students will learn how to use technology to advance their learning in more ways than I can describe. The enthusiasm I will see when my students are able to use the tablet will improve their overall understanding of concepts and quality of work. As a teacher this 21st century world, I am constantly searching for new ways to incorporate technology (hardware and/or software) into my classroom so that I can be confident my students are as prepared as possible when I send them into the world. With this being said, the few ways we will use the tablet I listed above is just the beginning. I will be continually searching for new and improved ways to utilize the tablet in my classroom.
My students do not all have access to 21st century technologies at their home.
I feel it is my job to not only teach them how to read, solve math problems, and write, but to also teach them how survive and grow within the growing world of technology. As 21st century learners, they need to be and will be more prepared for the technology-filled world ahead!
