Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am honored to teach 15 students with disabilities ranging from ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities to mental retardation and emotional disturbance. These high-need, middle schoolers loop with me for three years for all of their subjects and we need a comfortable learning space.

My students spend four hours a day sitting in standard issue student desks which are uncomfortable for them. Many of my students are taller than I am and they just don't fit in a desk so by the end of the day they feel cramped and a bit cranky. School is already challenging for my students and I want to make it as positive an experience for them as I possibly can.

If we had regular tables and chairs to use as an alternative to the desks I know that the class would be more comfortable. If the students are comfortable, they will be less distracted which means they will be accessing more of the learning in class. The tables will also be better than desks so students can spread out their projects when working in groups or even when they are playing games together.

With your help, my students will be more comfortable in class which will directly result in better learning. I appreciate your understanding how important it is to be in a comfortable learning environment. Thank you for supporting my students.
