My Students

Woah! How did that happen?! A tiny egg turned into a tadpole and then it turned into a frog! Do you remember what it was like to have your first experience in learning the life cycles of animals? I want my students to SEE that experience, observe, learn, and create ideas from it!

My 25 first grade students come from a small rural community in Indiana.

As first graders, they are truly experiencing their first dose of lengthy school time. They are excited to use their senses in order to enhance learning. My classroom will be one of the first experiences they have with such learning. I want to start them on the right foot and get them interested in SCIENCE, EXPERIMENTS, and OBSERVATIONS! They are budding scientists who are ready and willing to learn anything they can get their hands and eyes on! They are eager to try new things and share what they have learned with others! My students are ready to take on responsibilities in the classroom such as caring for this project. They are ready to explore and observe such animals as we may have in our tank! They will also be able to observe life cycles in their entirety instead of seeing them on videos or through pictures!

My Project

Help be a part of supporting my students' learning. These students will understand body systems, anatomy, the importance of cleanliness of the tank, as well as fulfill the requirements of many state and local standards in science education. My students will be able to recognize and identify living and nonliving things. They will be able to witness a life cycle first hand. They will be able to document, hypothesize, and observe things in nature that are often missed. This project will also spark other domains of learning our classroom such as naturalistic views. They will also be able to incorporate many interdisciplinary projects while dealing with these donated materials. They will take these experiences with them for years to come.

Some of my students do not have pets or jobs in their homes.

This will help strengthen those roles in their lives. Also, many of my students live in a suburban area where they are not able to have outdoor experiences with marine life. These students will forever remember our class because of this project.
