My Students

Many of my students have recently been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Their homes have been flooded and they lost many of their possessions. I would like to provide a laptop computer station for them in my classroom to help them access the Internet and complete their science assignments.

My students attend a Charter School in Jersey City, NJ.

These kids face significant economic and social challenges. Fortunately, we are a small school and so our students get considerable individual attention and support. The kids here are remarkably positive and they are truly inspiring to me. They deserve to have every advantage to improve their skills and achieve their dreams. We have recently adopted an online learning system to help reinforce our students skills. The reality is that many of my students do not have Internet access. This is distressing to me because, as their science teacher, there is a wealth of resources on the internet that can enhance their learning The school currently does not have the resources to provide students with computer access after school. I would like to have a computer station in my classroom with some laptops available for students to use to complete their online assignments and reinforce their learning through the use of the internet

My Project

My students will be able to use the laptop to complete Internet related assignments in a safe environment where they can receive my help and support. The students are required to complete assignments through an online program that will improve their skills in all of their subjects. In addition, they can do science research projects or create videos based on what they are learning in class. The Internet contains excellent resources for students to improve their understanding of science concepts. Many of my students do not have Internet access at home, so I want to provide for them a safe place for them to complete their assignments, homework and research.

Using a computer gives kids a more personal experience and improves their attention, motivation and improves their learning.

Our students are kids that want to learn and achieve but they are in need of considerable reinforcement of their skills. The use of the computer provides an interactive experience that gives them immediate reinforcement. Also, the videos and images capture their interest and inspire them. After school computer access will give all students an equal opportunity to learn.
