Students Are Hungry For The Hunger Games

My students need 35 copies of the novel, "The Hunger Games," in order to spark a love for reading.

"Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!" Effie Trinket This is a book every kid should read. With the movie coming out, it's important for the kids to see that behind every good movie, there's probably a book!

My school is located in a small town in central Florida.

73% of our students are on Free and Reduced lunch, so sometimes, obtaining a current book is only a luxury my kids can afford if it's available in the media center. The problem is, this book is so popular that it's never available. My kids are enthusiastic about learning, sweet natured, polite and kind. This book would be a treat for them for the last quarter of school.

My Project

Rarely does a book captivate a group of students the way The Hunger Games has captivated the students at my school. The problem is that the book just won't stay on the shelf! This book has so many potential tie-ins to real life. I can see a comparison to Hollywood, sports, politics. The possibilities are endless. I could also use it in my gifted classes as an extension of the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. To top it off, it's well written and engages its audience - keeping us wanting more.

Donations for this project will make a tremendous impact on my students and my teaching.

This project will impact not only this year's students, but kids for years to come. Since this book is such a sensation, it's a sure bet to keep kids engaged in school until the end of the year.
