My students need an Apple iMac to have a digital editing center to maximize the effectiveness of their news broadcast.

My Students

In my classroom I foster a learning environment where project based learning can help my students dreams to grow. I provide my students with the ability to think differently, allowing them to break away from the norm and increase their creativity, innovation, and motivation to succeed.

The student news team is a very dedicated group of 3rd to 5th grade students who give up their lunch and recess time to brainstorm, write, assign, prepare, record, edit, and produce the biweekly news broadcast.

Every day my students walk into my room with smiles on their faces, eager to collaborate with one another and learn something new. They are the kindest, most caring group of students, and are always willing to lend a helping hand to myself and each other. My students are grateful and appreciative for what they have and what they are given. It has been a year since Hurricane Sandy and just like much of New Jersey, we are still feeling the effect. Looking at my students, you would never know that. This news team has become a family who, although we may argue sometimes, is always there to support each other.

My Project

My student news team needs new technology to update their news broadcast and to give them more creative options when editing and producing a final product. Currently my students have to take turns crowding around my tired and outdated laptop in order to produce each story. This causes stories to be delayed in production and limits what we are capable of doing. The new iMac would open up a host of new opportunities for my students. A new iMac would allow my students the opportunity to record directly into iMovie letting editing take place almost instantaneously. They would have the opportunity to start trying green screen recordings. Perhaps most importantly, they will have the ability to move up to a weekly broadcast. A hero of mine, Steve Jobs, once said, "œBecause the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." Just like Mr. Jobs said, my students have all the potential to change the world, they just need some updated tools.

My students give up so much of their time, that it would be great to give them new technology to work with.

Many of them have shown an interest in pursuing a career in news and they deserve this opportunity to go as far as they can while their on this team. With the help of an iMac, my students can look outside the boundaries of their town and begin to understand what is possible. The true power of technology is to unleash a child's imagination.
