Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of a knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM.” (National Science Foundation)
I have 27 wonderful 5th grade students.
They are very enthusiastic about learning and always eager to learn new things. They love coming to school every day and always have a big smile on their faces despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live.
They attend a school in California in a low income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.
My Project
Students will work in groups to solve problems involving math, science and engineering on the mini iPad with case, using applications such as Adapted Mind, Shape Shuffle, Inventioneers, and Monster Medics. Through these apps students will be able to see videos, diagrams, and 3d models, read articles, and solve problems involving real life situations. Students will prepare a presentation to show their findings to the rest of the class.
The bluetooth speaker will help students present those findings more effectively to the whole class. In addition students will share their findings with other students around the country via Skype. The main purpose of these activities is to make sure my students gain the knowledge in STEM and the technological skills they need to be successful in the 21st century. Students need to be prepared to compete globally, as well as nationally in our knowledge-based and technologically advanced society.
Your donations will make it possible for my students to obtain the tools necessary to gain the knowledge and develop the technological skills in order to be competitive in our society.
Your support will make a huge impact on my students' lives as they will become better prepared to enter the workforce when they become adults. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
