Mrs. Opolsky from Waterford Twp MI is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the software and hardware, Robotic Animal Kit, so that they can begin to learn and build robots.

My classroom is a dynamic classroom where students move, engage in hands-on learning and take care of a few classroom pets. It is limited in technology, text and tools. I hope that I can add more equipment to jump start our new school-wide science program.
My students are from grades kindergarten to seventh grade, in a diverse, urban school.
They have little experience with science. Some of my students are learning to speak English, so I like to give them activities that generate talking. I want to give them new science experiences by teaching them exciting, current science. One big educational movement is integrating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Research shows that this type of teaching helps all students. STEM projects are engaging and hands-on, just what they need! When students work in groups on STEM projects, they learn valuable skills that not only help them learn science, but will help them in the future workforce. My students are great children who would really benefit from modern tools in the classroom.
My students are eager to learn, and really enjoy it when they work together on a project. They teach each other and seem to ask more questions this way. By getting the robotic sets, I can have smaller groups learning about animals, about technology and engineering. Individuals will develop better social skills. Robotics is something most of the students are interested in, and they all love animals. By getting animal robot kits, I am getting something they are already interested in. Since the kits also come with books, I can better meet the different learning styles of my students.
Students will not only be learning science, but will also learn about technology, and will be introduced to engineering.
When they successfully build an animal robot, their confidence will grow. My students with English as a second language (ESL) will be able to work by doing, and learn some new English vocabulary. By choosing something they are interested in, I am motivating their learning and making school a fun place to go to.
