I am honored to facilitate a workspace filled with radically creative, rule-book ripping, convention-destroying, electrically enthusiastic, future world changers!
(Most people just see me as an 8th grade science teacher though)
My group of IMAGINEERS are very diverse and come from very mixed backgrounds.
We are a Title 1 school meaning a large percentage of our students need free or reduced lunches. Resources for materials, outside speakers, and field trips are limited and we rely on grants and generous contributors to help fund our ambitious projects.
My students are hungry for STEM projects. Anything involving imagining, designing, constructing, deconstructing, or testing gets them fired up.
My Project
We are planning a school wide STEM competition where all of our students will participate in Science Olympiad style design and build events. Events will include Mousetrap Cars, Wood Bridges, Egg Drop, and Water Bottle Rockets. There will also be knowledge based events where student will prepare and then be tested in fields such as Astronomy, Meteorology, and Fossils. Prizes will be awarded to grade level winners and school wide winners.
Materials donated will allow us to have a variety of ambitious and challenging project categories. Bigger is better!
We hope to introduce all of our students to the fun and challenge or large scale design and build events.
It will also allow them to exercise their teamwork skills, creativity, and ingenuity.
We also want to inspire more interest and participation in our extra curricular science programs (Science Club, Science Olympiad Club and Science Fair).
And we hope to improve school spirit through a school wide week of friendly competition and cooperation.
