Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Once my students and I had realized B.B. King passed away I realized it was a great opportunity to introduce this great man and the "Blues". The blues and jazz will be a new concept that I will introduce this coming school year.

When I introduced jazz and blues to my students I could see the light bulbs going off in their heads.

Some of the students that are kind of quiet and stay to themselves opened up more when they learned how to play the blues. The blues comes from within and some of them got it right away.

My Project

I have students that want to learn how to play the bass, but haven't been able to take advantage of the opportunity because we do not currently own a bass. Since we are starting jazz band this school year it will be a great opportunity for them to learn. There is nothing like a laid back swinging bass line to play to.

I will be able to provide an opportunity for my students to learn how to play another genre of music.

The blues are in us all. The music speaks to our souls and no matter how young or old you are we can all relate to it. I can't wait to get started!
