Stand and Deliver II: AlphaBetter Desks in Demand!

My students need two AlphaBetter standing desks in order to optimize their learning potential.

My Students

"When your bum is numb, your brain is the same!" This is very true, especially for sixth and seventh graders. Their English and History classes are combined into one one-hour-and-fifty-minute period - ouch! Two AlphaBetter standing desks would allow more movement and help prevent numb brains!

"My students are suburban children, who attend a "distinguished" and Title One public middle school in California.

They are tweens, brimming with the joy of life and hormones! Most are eager to learn, some are eager to squirm! They come from all walks of life and from countries all over the world.

My Project

My students currently take turns using the one AlphaBetter desk with a book box (AKA the standing desk) in my classroom. It was donated to me last year by Chevron through Donorschoose.org. The students adore using it! Because it is taller than the regular desks, it allows a short student to sit in the back of the room and see the front perfectly. The swinging foot bar allows students to move their bodies in a quiet and discreet manner, which allows for an optimal learning environment. The user's ability to stand or sit (I provide a stool)gives a student body-movement options which can maximize comfort and extent focus time.

I am convinced that the standing desk helps children learn.

For the last year, I've observed my student's use of the one Alphabetter standing desk I have, and I like what I see. It is so popular with my students, they want more! The desks will allow the students using them to quietly move their bodies as they work, which in turn will help the overall learning environment in the classroom, benefitting all students. Thank you for considering my proposal.
