This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine having all the audiovisual equipment on a desk and cords and extension cords running all over the place? Well, that is how things are in the classroom. We have a small computer desk with the projector, document reader, speakers, and laptop, with all of their power cords in the way.

My students are the third group of 7th graders in a 6-12th pilot public school.

The last two years we have been in two different campuses. This will be the first year when all of our students will be in the same campus. Our school is non-traditional. Technology is important as well as high academic standing. Our school's goal is to have all of our students attend college. In class, I use the projector, document readers, interactive white board, laptop and response system to deliver lessons. The students use the same resources to demonstrate what they have learned and to make presentations. Traditionally, 7th grade is a challenge. Most students lack motivation. My students are inner-city students, most are in a low-social economic status and are part of a linguistic minority group. Though they are typical urban students, they are not typical. They want to succeed and are buying into our mission, that they will learn, go to college and become responsible citizens.

My Project

We need an Audio Visual cart to keep all of the equipment organized. The cart will help keep 3-4 AV equipment in a central place where the students will have access, as well as the teacher, without fumbling through the equipment cords and extension cords that are potential hazards. The AV cart will be the stage for teaching and learning. Students will be able to make their multimedia presentations with ease. We will have no Steve Urkel (character in ABC's Family Matters) tripping over cords, powering down the speakers to make room for the document reader, disconnecting the projector before watching the film because there is no room for all of the equipment on the small desk and saying, "Look what you did!"

Help us keep everything in one space - a staging area for delivery of lessons, keeping a larger area for students and teacher to move around freely and interact without worrying about the equipment.
