My Students
In my physical education classroom, we spend most of the time period working on social skills and building communication with one another in situations where there is competition. "ÂIntelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong." JFK
My students are eager to learn and to be challenged in their physical education classroom.
They show excitement when we are challenging one another in competition. However, we currently do not have enough equipment for every student to participate per class. This leaves some students watching and waiting for their turn. I only have each class once a week and their time is precious.
The school is very diverse in socioeconomic and many are considered at poverty level. This results in over half of the student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch. The majority of the student population has a military connection because we are located near a military base. The school does receive Title I funding, however; budgets are still tight and the school could use more physical education equipment.
My Project
I am requesting speed stack sets for the purpose of instructing hand-eye coordination, group cooperation, self-confidence, motivation, and good sportsmanship. I believe every student has a talent and this is a great way of unlocking that talent.
My envision is to work hand-in-hand with the school counselor to set up an after school program. This is where the tournament timer and mat comes in to help get this program started. Intentions are to help students cope with parents deployed or other hardships they are suffering due to our demo-graphical settings.
Speed stacks sets are very engaging to all my students in all grade levels. Therefore, I can turn this motivation into instructing my students on team work and good sportsmanship. Pairing my students with others that they normally would not consider teaming up with teaches tolerance and minimizes bullying. This is not to mention teaching hand-eye coordination skills and building each and every students self confidence.
This project will motivate and engage my students while I am teaching them skills they need for life.
My students will gain a sense of team work and rise in their confidence that will shine as they move forward. This project will benefit the whole school and will hopefully grow into an after school tournament club that will include staff and students.
