My students need and work very well with increased concentration while sitting on stability balls while working on academics and exercise, which increases brain functions.
Our classroom and daily academic instruction is based on movement infused activities within an action based learning lab. Students' levels of academics are increased when using stability balls as it provides movement for the student who has difficulty sitting still, as opposed to a regular chair.
My students are grades K-5, and have mild to severe intellectual disabilities such as Attention Deficit Disorder, and multiple Special Needs, and serious behavioral issues.
Many of the students have great difficulty in sitting still during the day within their classroom setting, while learning their academics and social skills. Our learning program provides a learning environment which offers movement infused activities layered with academic content.Our action based motor lab and constant physical activities creates a more positive learning environment for our students. Since the students are allowed to move and be physical throughout the day, their eagerness and willing to learn increases greatly and their productivity is increased.
My Project
Our students show greater eagerness and willing to learn when they are given the stability balls to sit on while working on their academics. Brain based research has proven that movement and increased stimulation increases the potential for the brain to become more receptive and as a result the student learns at a more successful rate. Comprehension and retention levels are increased, as well as assisting the students to remain on task for longer periods of time, and enabling them to complete their assignments at a higher level of success. The students will use the stability balls to sit on at their desk while working on math, science, social studies, writing and reading.
This project will make a great difference for all of our students has they can use the stability balls to sit on as they prepare their assignments, as well as use them through daily physical exercise.
As the students sit on the stability balls while working on their academics they show a greater level of progress and completion on their assignments. The stability balls will be a great asset for our students and our classroom.
