My Students

My students are a lot of fun and very excited about learning. Our children seem to struggle with math and being a diverse classroom it is even harder for some of them. Our school is a high poverty school and sometimes the only one-on-one time our kids get is here in the classroom.

Wow, how can I tell you how wonderful these little faces are each day we see them?

From where they started at the beginning of school to where they are now is amazing. Our school is made up of a large diverse population. We have kids that depend on us each day for food and loving care. The materials I have gotten from DonorsChoose.org has made a strong impact in their learning. They are excited and anxious to get into the centers and learn from the toys. I want to help build a great foundation for these kids so when they continue on to higher grades they will not struggle.

My Project

Most kids love water and to fish so that is why my children are in need of a water and a sand table along with the magnetic fishing pools for letters and numbers. This will help the kids identify the numbers as well as the letters in their names. Most children love to put water and sand in buckets and to measure them with the lake shore water kit helps them learn by exploring and doing some discovery on their own. When kids learn through play they seem to understand it better and catch on faster. Just like the poem about play says, having a boy play with a baby doll teaches him to be a great father. Having a girl build with blocks can teach her to be an engineer. Play is wonderful and that is why I would love to have these toys to inspire my children to learn.

This project is important to me because I am trying to get my centers up to date with some of the common core standards that is expected of my children when they reach kindergarten.

Giving them the chance to learn through play will help them understand these standards much better in this grade level so when they do get to kindergarten I hope it comes natural to them.
