Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of my favorite children's book author, Roald Dahl, once said, “A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men.” By contributing to my "Water Day" project, you will be bringing back some of that "nonsense" that Kindergarteners so desperately need!

My school is located in eastern New Orleans in a high poverty area.

It is a very diverse community, with a rich and vibrant Vietnamese, African American, and growing Hispanic culture. Many of my students come from single parent families, and struggle to purchase even basic school supplies, like pencils. Despite their hardships, they come to school curious, motivated, with a love for life and learning. They are what keeps me in the classroom; they truly are a joy to spend time with every day!

My Project

After a year of an extremely rigorous curriculum and assessments, my kids need a chance to relax, play, and celebrate their achievements! Most of my students do not have regular access to the pool or beach, and even in the stifling heat of a New Orleans summer it can be hard to cool down. In celebration of their promotion to First Grade, myself and the other Kindergarten teachers want to design a Water Day, featuring slides, kiddie pools, bubbles, and so on. It will also feature activities that will test their fine motor skills, such as fishing pole games and catch. They will learn the most important lesson- that childhood is not over, and that working hard in the classroom leads to FUN rewards outside!

By donating to my project, you will be giving these 5 and 6 year olds a day of fun they will never forget.

Many of my students lead challenging and often unstable lives; they need moments like this to just be silly, and to realize how much their school and teachers love and appreciate them. Also, we will keep these materials to store and reuse for years to come! Please donate and know that your donation will be going to the most deserving Kindergarteners and school in New Orleans.
