Speech and Language Therapy in Spanish Please

My students need Spanish and English speech and language therapy materials (bilingual photo cards, books and games) to help them and their families

My Students

In a typical day in our speech room my students are actively engaged in learning a second language~ENGLISH! These students come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. They are in need of language development in English- a language that is new to them.

My students have communication needs on their individualized Educational Plans and English in not their primary language.

I provided speech and language services in a suburban elementary school in Ohio with mostly low to mid middle-class families. Coming to speech therapy helps my students grow to be better life communicators. Already my students need extra support. These students often have parents that do not speak English. My students need materials in Spanish and English to work on in the speech room and be able to take home and practice at home.

My Project

My students will use the materials in this project to be successful in their language and speech independence and carry these skills over into their home environment. With so many of my students having Spanish and English as languages in their life, they need speech and language material in both. The bilingual photo cards, books and games will allow my students to learn vocabulary in their first language and in the language they are learning in school. My students will also gain social skills, turn taking, self confidence, as well as developing vocabulary and language skills. The home packs will be great to send home in either Spanish or English to help communicate with the family. All of these materials will give my students more opportunities to learn and use the English language. When the students use these activities and materials they will feel successful which will lead to an increase in their academic self confidence.

Communication is a two way street.

My students who have language needs and are learning English when Spanish is spoken in the home seem to only have a one way street. The materials requested here will help those students get on a two way street. Learning language and speech skills with materials in both languages will help my students and their families. Parents will be able to help with home speech and language activities and learning. What a great opportunity for all of us to grow.
