I wish that I could describe a typical day in my classroom, but I'm lucky enough not to have any typical days! My students are high needs, special education students who have a love for Math and Science, but need tools to help them foster their interests! With these supplies, they will soar!
As I mentioned previously, my students have special needs.
Together, we learn in a small setting, with no more than 12 students in each of my classes. My children have limitless ability, and so much love for Math and Science. Luckily, our cozy school in Queens relentlessly fosters that love, while consistently challenging them. As a result, they are confident, outgoing, intelligent, and endlessly hilarious! Please help me create an environment that caters to their varying needs; all they need is an extra hand, and every resource matters.
My Project
My plan is to create a warm, inviting, and comfortable Science reading library for my children. Unfortunately, many of my students go home to stressful environments that are not conducive to reading. Oftentimes they can be found commuting a long way home, helping mom with their siblings, or helping out around the house. Sadly, this does not leave much opportunity for reading in their spare time. As a result, I want to offer them a special, comfortable place to do this at school. With the right books, and a well arranged space, I think that we can accomplish this! This Science library will be a wonderful resource for class projects, homework, or just extracurricular learning! Additionally, I am requesting a few Math games. There is no better way for children to learn than through play! Finally, plastic bins will help us create a classroom that is comfortable and organized.
I want my students to know that they are so, so special, that people go out of their way to make sure they get the resources they deserve.
Oftentimes, they express feeling different from general education students. The only difference is that they need an extra helping hand. Every single resource that I can obtain for them serves as that hand, and gives them an edge!
