My students need a set of speakers to better hear videos that enhance their learning in science class.

My Students
"Yeah, we can see it, Ms. S, but we can't HEAR it!" It can be extremely frustrating to watch a video and be unable to hear the information that the narrator presents. This is especially the case when watching a science video. The visuals are important, of course, but the narration is ESSENTIAL.
I teach at a small pre-K to 8 school in a very large urban district.
Our school is comprised of students of varying ethnic backgrounds, and many of them speak a language other than English at home. About 80% of our students are categorized as low income. Despite these potential setbacks, the students are enthusiastic, involved, and academically successful.
My Project
Last school year, my students and I were privileged to have received an LCD projector from some generous DonorsChoose patrons. This has been an amazing gift, and my students and I have used it in a variety of ways such as note taking and observing demonstrations. Additionally, we have used the LCD projector to watch a variety of videos. In this technology-filled 21st century, many videos are no longer available in DVD form; in fact, the videos that are provided by our science curriculum can only be accessed through the Internet. Unfortunately, we do not have access to a high quality set of speakers to allow us to fully experience these educational videos.
In addition to utilizing this resource with my seventh-grade science students, the opportunity to better hear videos will be gratefully employed by an after school club.
I am the teacher-leader for our school's Robotics Club, and there are numerous video resources that will improve students' abilities to design, build, operate, and compete with an underwater robot. These speakers will be an immense improvement upon science class and Robotics Club this year and for many years to come.
