My Students

In his book, "Outliers", Malcolm Gladwell cites research that success comes from practice; most often, success comes from more than 10,000 hours of dedicated practice. Students interested in competitive track and field come to our school as novices and require equipment for meaningful practices.

Located in an inner city in Missouri, our charter school is in its inaugural year.

Students from other public, charter, and private schools attend our middle school seeking challenging course work, more opportunities, and college preparation. They commit to a longer school day and longer school year. Students are highly motivated, committed to getting a meaningful education, and demonstrate grit, as they are often here for 8-9 hours a day and attend school year-round.

My Project

With these resources, students will be able to begin a track club, which will build not only physical strength and skill, but also develop teamwork skills. Through track club, students will gain another insight into the opportunities schools can provide, as well as discover other areas where they can be challenged and demonstrate success.

Batons, a shot put, and other training materials will give students the opportunity to feel like true scholar athletes.

Experiences with these materials will give them the edge they need to compete, once they are pooled with larger groups of athletes in high school and the college arena.
