Solar Power Festival

My students need solar ovens, solar energy color changing beads, and a solar-powered dragonfly kit to demonstrate the sun as an alternative energy source.

My Students

Every child knows that we should reduce, reuse, and recycle. What children don't know is that there are other options besides oil and coal that can create electricity and run our world.

My students are inner-city children who love learning.

The absolutely adore hands-on projects and having fun with science. I try to create as much of a lab environment as possible in order to teach them the basics they will need in order to become the future scientists of the United States and of the world.

My Project

By holding a Solar Energy Festival this spring, students will learn through fun activities how the sun can do things we normally rely on gas or other electricity sources to perform. Cooking with solar ovens, creating a bracelet with beads that change colors with the energy from the sun, and a display of a dragonfly flapping its wings using solar power instead of batteries or an electric outlet will allow the students to understand there are alternative sources out there.

We all need to do our share to help the environment and save the world we live in.

By providing an afternoon's worth of lessons through this project, you will help over 300 students learn about how they can do things to change the world. They may not do it all right now, but they are the future scientists and engineers who will help implement the changes we need to keep the Earth healthy.
