Our small, rural, high-needs school has one High School Art teacher. That's me. Our K-12 building houses about 500 students. Ours is a close knit school and community, with most students beginning here as kindergarteners and staying until they graduate as seniors.

I teach several basic Studio Art classes and several Advanced Art classes. I have been teaching here for 15 years, but because of budget constraints, I was unable to offer any art electives to our HS students...UNTIL THIS YEAR!! Our supportive administration, acknowledging the need for this creative option for our students, has allowed me to offer a Pottery elective. The students signed up for the class, it immediately reached the maximum number of student enrollees, and now we're off and running!

The Pottery course consists primarily of hand building work, the bulk of which is made by rolling out slabs of clay with a rolling pin. As we are under a time constraint (40 minute classes), by the time a student rolls out the slab and begins working on their piece, it is already time to clean up. The slab roller that I am trying to buy for the class would alleviate this problem - multiple slabs for many students could easily be made and the students could get right to work.

Your help will make it possible for my students to expand their experiences in the world of clay - experimenting, creating, and learning how to create functional and sculptural pieces of artwork. I've heard several of them mention selling some ceramic work as fundraisers for their yearly museum trips. My free periods, lunch time, and their study halls are now spent in my room - with clay, clay, clay. Help! Your generous donation would help me to keep up with them!!
