My Students

Ohio just recently adopted the Common Core Standards and changed everything we've ever taught in second grade. We have no materials to teach the new standards and no budget to purchase new materials.

We are a rural high-poverty school in central Ohio.

We are a Pre-K to 2nd Grade building with over 400 students in a 98 year-old building with little hope for getting a new one anytime soon. My students will be unprepared for science in the higher grades if I have no materials to teach them with.

My Project

My students are going to study life science by making individual terrariums, worm composting bins, soil comparisons and ant farms and fossils. The weather kit will help us to study and create our own weather tools for measuring wind speed and direction.

These materials will help my students develop the skills for systematic discovery to understand the science of the physical world, weather and weather changes and ecosystems.

I hope to inspire a love a science in my students.
