My Students

"If you put 'em on the stage, parents will come" is the motto of many music teachers. Putting students on stage in musical programs is my passion! The problem is the woefully inadequate lighting that makes it difficult to see our wonderful performers; we need a spotlight for the stage.

My students are economically disadvantaged.

Many of my students are English Language Learners. Unlike most schools, our PTA is not able to be as actively supportive as they would like. These factors combined not only put our students at a disadvantage, but it puts them at risk of failure. One of the highlights of school for these kids is the chance to shine on stage. Anytime there is an upcoming performance, the kids can't stop talking about it! Providing performance opportunities gives those kids who may be struggling with school a reason to show up. Student performances also provide the perfect opportunity to communicate with parents in a fun and comfortable setting.

My Project

Students should shine in the best light possible, and a brand new spotlight will accomplish this goal. Children's smiling faces, quirky expressions and mannerisms are priceless when they perform on stage for an audience! Students deserve to be showcased in the spotlight where the nuance of their personalities can shine through. Performing on stage allows a child to be silly or serious, and dramatically expressive. The stage is the one place where kids can not only express themselves, but they can be applauded for it! For the parents, the limelight that captures their baby's adorableness for "all the world to see" can be so meaningful that words aren't even adequate enough to express it. Your support of this project will provide our students and their families with the opportunity to not just shine, but to shine more clearly and brightly in the best light possible.
