My Students

Most students will not continue in a career in art, but all are surrounded and affected by art every day. With this project, my students will not only critically view and critique the visual world around them, but will also actively engage in creating meaningful images as part of their daily lives.

My students are active and engaged in the world around them.

Although we are a high poverty school district, the students are always willing to share what they have with each other and the community. All of my students volunteer throughout their four years in high school.

My Project

Several of my students have asked me to teach them how to design and print their own shirts. Using the screens, inks and screen printing supplies requested, my students will have the opportunity to create a work of art that they can show pride in each time they wear it. Additionally, my students will learn the importance of the clothing they wear. Students will learn about how visual culture affects them, their perception of their world and their world's perception of them. We are all affected by the images that surround us and this project will give my students the opportunity to not only recognize the visual culture that surrounds them, but also actively participate in positively contributing to that visual culture.

By funding this project, you will allow my students the opportunity to make a project many of them have been begging to create.

My students will learn about one of many careers they can pursue in art and will also be able to create their own meaningful shirt designs to be shared for all to see.
