Settled In and Ready to Learn!

My students need learning centers to help them to develop math and reading skills.

My Students

My class has finally established a new routine. Our school was destroyed by the earthquake that occurred on the east coast. For many weeks we have been adapting to our new trailer school environment, we finally have done that and are really ready to settle into learning.

I teach special education students in grades K-1.

These students require additional time and creative methods to gain new skills. For the past few months, we have been focusing on basic number and phonemic skills. We have played the games and completed the centers that I have developed many times. The students are tired of these same activities, however they have not completely grasped the new skills. My classroom is in desperate need of some fresh, exciting, and new games to spark the students' learning desires. It is really amazing to see how their faces light up when they think they are going to play a game and possibly win a marshmallow or a sticker. They try so hard when they want to win. The harder they try the more learning they will achieve.

My Project

I have requested many learning centers for math and reading. These centers will make my students better readers and have a better understanding of numbers and how they fit together. Since my students have special needs they often need small groups or one-on-one assistance. With the centers my assistant will have fun activities to play with the students that are not directly working in group with me. They will think they are playing fun games and they will actually be learning. If my students grasp these prerequisite skills they will be more successful in their future academic years.

These centers will make my students more eager to learn and participate in math and reading groups.

My students have special needs and do not learn easily through traditional means. They learn best with visuals and hands-on activities. These activities will motivate my students to learn and enable them to feel better about themselves.
