My Students

My next Donors Choose grant may be for white lab coats... but first we need microscopes!!! I want to set up a project based classroom with a real science lab. Learning through the scientific process is authentic and what my students need to be engaged in their education!

My students attend an inner city Title 1 school that was built in 1891.

While our building is historic and quite special, it is not especially modern. My students have a variety of learning styles and special needs. It is a regular 4th grade class of close to 30 students with lots of personality and potential. Our school has a very mixed population in terms of economics, home languages, and parental involvement.

My Project

Microscopes are a starting point for a science lab! With an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM subjects), my students can explore and investigate real biology, math, and technology concepts as related to common core standards. If we are learning about cells, we will not just read about them, and do a worksheet. We will be able to prepare slides, observe, and gather data!
