Scissors for Learning

My students need scissors for foldables and our AVID class uses Expo markers galore for their very important group tutorials.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have all these great ideas to help my students learn with foldables, but have 2 pairs of scissors in our class. That is just not going to work. My AVID students help each other learn during group tutorials, but we go through lots of Expo markers and are constantly in need of more.

My students are highly motivated students who want to learn, but our supplies are always limited.

Foldables will help them organize their thoughts, vocabulary, concepts, events and they will have fun while learning! My AVID classes have group tutorials twice a week! These kids have voluntarily given up an elective to join a program that supports and guides them towards a four-year college or university directly out of high school. The majority of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students will be the first in their family to go to college and they are working real hard to achieve this goal.

My Project

My students will learn vital vocabulary, create timelines, organize events and important people in US and World History. We all know when we manipulate tools to learn, the learning lasts. We need these scissors so that students can create without the limitation of no supplies.

The majority of my Social Science students are English Learners and they need to manipulate the information they are learning in order to help remember it.

Foldables are an awesome strategy that will help EL students manipulate the information and will help make meaning of the information they will be better off for knowing.
