It is important for students to experience authentic learning and understand the importance of helping others. Our "Giving Garden" grows crops year around that are given to the local food co-op. Now, we are adding an outdoor classroom to allow students more opportunities for learning.
Our school is made up of students in Prekindergarten through 5th grade.
We focus on making students "Leaders" in our community. We teach students the importance of helping others and giving back to our community.
The "Giving Garden" is located between the cafeteria and gym. Every student walks past the "Giving Garden" daily on the way to and from recess. They see fruits, vegetables, and flowers growing. Students also see a water shed, which we use to water the plants in the beds. They see compost piles and help by adding banana peels from the cafeteria to the compost. They also see an African Keyhole Garden, a bog garden, and beautiful greenhouse with many growing plants. The Outdoor Classroom will be put in the center of the garden.
My Project
Our students plant seeds in our greenhouse, transplant them into garden beds, water them daily, and help pick them. Students need a place to be able to sit and observe what is going on in the garden.
We need two cobalt blue sails. The sails will help shade the students while they are working and learning in the garden.
This project will help get more classes in the garden.
It will provide shade for students while they are observing all the plants and wildlife that are in the garden. It will be a place classes can go outside to read books and enjoy learning outside.
