This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you ever wish you could be in a high school rock band? My students have that opportunity with Rock Camp!

My students come from a small, conservative agriculture area that has no live rock concerts or performances.

Students must travel fairly large distances to be exposed to provoking art, live music, and creative culture. Since music is a great escape for the troubled adolescent years, these kids love the chance to participate in a real rock band with new friends.

My Project

I am requesting a 31-band equalizer for the band. An equalizer is a piece of equipment that makes the vocals, as well as the whole band, sound professional while eliminating annoying hums, buzzes, and background noises... similar to your stereo's EQ, but much more complicated! Students will enjoy the professional sound during performances. I had the fortune of being a professional touring musician for many years. I use my industry knowledge to show teenagers how to form a real band. Students not only learn their instrumental parts on guitar, bass, keyboard, percussion, and vocals, but also collaborate to arrange cover songs until a final, presentable version is reached. The final songs are performed for friends, parents, school, and the community. Students also gain an understanding of music terms, concepts, and fundamentals. Since studying music improves concentration, it is no wonder why studies indicate that reading comprehension and math achievements also improve for these kids.

Music develops brain power, aids their spatial-temporal ability, promotes abstract reasoning, improves their ability to work with peers in teams, improves concentration, and gives many adolescents a real reason to look forward to school each and every day.

To the kids, of course, it's just plain fun!
