This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you ever wish you could be in a real band? My students have that opportunity with Rock Camp!

My students come from a small, agriculture-based town where the majority of families are low-income.

There are very few cultural escapes available, such as coffee house poetry readings or open-mic nights. The teenagers love music, and learning an instrument creates a positive, self-motivated individual.

My Project

I use my years of experience as a professional, touring musician so students can collaborate and actually perform rock songs as a group. Students learn guitar, bass, keyboard, percussion, and vocal parts, and then perform live... just like a real band. We need some professional equipment for the ultimate rock experience, and this sonic maximizer fits the bill perfectly! A sonic maximizer is kind of like an equalizer, but with more volume for bass and treble. Students will be able to hear their voices shine with clarity, and the instruments thump and sparkle with vividness. The sound of this sonic maximizer will create a realistic, live band ambiance, which the students have never experienced.

Music engages many students who are not fond of the typical academic school day.

By participating in a real band, many lackluster students become motivated to come to school and participate. Studies of the brain suggests that music creates better organization skills, as well as adding to the artistic nature of an individual. Overall, music is an escape for the turbulent teenage years, and these students also make lifelong friends through the bands they create.
