My Students

Robots need design and programming to get the job done!

Our robotics team students attend a magnet high school in Southern CA.

The students are dedicated, hard-working, and intelligent. They spend the first five months of the school year preparing to build a robot for the FIRST Long Beach Regional Competition and San Bernardino. While other students are at home watching TV or playing video games, our students use the majority of their time outside of class programming and building robots while also raising funds for our team. They often arrive in the early hours of the morning, leaving well past midnight, while still attending classes and getting homework done. The robotics team is student run with help from teachers and community mentors.

My Project

This computer will help students to practice fundamental skills in programming, designing, and building an advanced robot to enter in the FIRST competition. This laptop will provide our team of 32 students greater access to industry-standard computer software and computer resources while improving technical problem-solving abilities. The laptop is expected to serve not only the robotics team, but also engineering and technology classes in grades 9 through 12 for the next five years. Finally, the laptop will travel with the team to expos and promotional events to run demonstrations designed to excite younger students about robotics.

These students are the most devoted team with which I have worked.

This is a talented team, but unfortunately they have not been able to reach their full potential due to a lack of portable computers. With the amount of time these kids put into working after school and on weekends, they deserve to have the best. With your help, we can get this laptop and be prepared and successful at the next regional competitions.
