My students need a set of age appropriate colored hand bells and a djembe drum to use in music class.

My school has a very transit population because we are located in a military community. Many students register throughout the year and because they come from all over the United States and sometimes world, it is difficult to ensure that all students know the same music objectives. However, our population is culturally diverse and that makes for wonderful music lessons.

I find that when I'm teaching music theory, notation and rhythms, many times students are behind or have not learned how to read musical notation especially in the kindergarten, first and second grades.

I would love colored hand bells that are developmentally appropriate for my students. Because they are colored, I would be able to color code our music according to the bell that is being played, and this would help those students who have not yet identified the lines and spaces on the staff. They would be able to see the red note and track it as it moves up and down as they play their red bell. In order for my players to keep a steady beat while looking at printed music, I would also like a student leader to keep a steady pulse on a djembe drum since students at this age can not watch a conductor while tracking printed music.

You can make it possible for my students to have a positive learning experience without becoming frustrated because they don't understand how to read music. It is hard enough moving around from school to school but even harder to realize that you don't understand a concept. By making music together with other children, all students will be actively involved and part of the team. Thanks for your consideration!
