My Students

Do you remember when worksheets were passed out to review and assess students on what they have learned? Those are a thing of the past. Students will now review concepts and ideas, as well as show teachers what they learned, with hands-on games and concepts.

I teach special needs students in eighth grade in a rural district.

By the time students with special needs reach middle school, they are burnt out and unmotivated to learn. They are frustrated and feel hopeless. As a middle school special education teacher, it is my job to not only teach students what they need to learn, but also light the spark for learning once again. Using fun and exciting ways to teach and review concepts is part of this process. The first step to teaching students is making it exciting and fun once again.

My Project

By being given the opportunity to use manipulatives in the classroom I can spark the interest in my students to learn once again. Instead of writing a Venn Diagram to compare and Contrast characters in a story, why not use two hula hoops to create a Venn Diagram? What about making learning a friendly competition? Review concepts and create review games using bean bags, basketball hoops, dart boards to receive points for your team. The possibilities are endless when it comes to making your classroom an exciting environment.

It is sad when students are no longer excited to learn.

By creating engaging, hands-on, and exciting lessons it brings the spark for learning back into their lives. Students need to be excited to learn in order to learn!
