Resource Room Garden

My students need a microscope, gardening tools, gloves, composter, and leaf rubbing set for exploring and maintaining the class' garden.

My Students

Due to the current economic situation affecting schools, our students are lacking the funds to keep up, learn from, and explore the class room garden. The hands-on learning that can be done with the garden, in addition to the life science lessons are invaluable to their individual learning needs.

The students are a part of a Resource Room and range from Kindergarten to 6th grade.

A Resource Room is a place where students with learning disabilities or other health impairments can receive instruction for their individual learning needs. The students who attend the class are very eager to learn and especially enjoy managing and working out in the garden.

My Project

The students enjoy the garden as a break from learning, but what they fail to realize is the garden teaches them more because they enjoy it and they forget they are learning. The items that are being requested will allow us to explore the educational factor of the garden. With a microscope that can connect to an overhead, our students will be able to explore plants, seeds, and soil as a group and in more depth. The composter will allow students to provide for the garden and get a sense of responsibility in taking care of it. Not only are educational needs being met with the garden, but social and life skills are being address as well.

The donations provided to this project will aid students beyond just this school year.

Items needed to keep up and benefit from the garden are not easily obtained with our current budget. However, by giving to this project, the current and future students will be able to use this life skill outside of the classroom and prove to others that being in special education truly does provide an exceptional learning experience.
