This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Waste not, want not - a motto that my students don't understand. We live in an era of such waste. It is a shame that my students don't have a true appreciation for where resources come from.

I work in a low-income, high-poverty school in California.

We live in such a beautiful state, but I don't think my students truly appreciate the beauty. Their neighborhood is filled with trash and graffiti. I don't think that they realize their contribution to the waste and what they can do to improve their community.

My Project

My students don't have a true understanding of what it means to recycle and reduce waste. I would like to have library books that explain the concept. We will read and have rich discussions on what we can do to reduce waste at school and in the surrounding community. I also plan for them to do research and follow-up projects with their new learning.

My students are the future, and our future cannot be filled with waste.

My students need to learn the important roles they play in reducing, reusing, and recycling in order to make their community a better place.
