My Students

The students in my classroom all learn at different rates and come to the classroom with different strengths and abilities. Having these iPods will help lessen the gap between learners, by allowing them to learn at their own rate and give them more time to review and work with me.

My students attend a high poverty school in a city that endured an EF-5 tornado last spring.

Most of them lost their homes and are living in temporary housing or FEMA trailers. Some of them live in temporary housing as far as 45 minutes away while they are waiting for their homes to be rebuilt. A great number of my students ride the bus for over an hour a day and are losing out on lots of time to work on homework at home.

My Project

These 5 iPod touches will allow students to watch me teach a previously recorded lesson on the iPod while I work with another group of students on independent practice. This will allow my students to have more time to work one-on-one with me at school because half the class will be watching videos and half will be practicing the lesson. These iPods will be able to be checked out to take home with students, so that if they didn't understand the lesson during the first time, they can watch the lesson again at home. This will really lessen the gap in achievement abilities in my room because students who need some challenging will get it, and students who need more help will get it. Students will also be able to use the iPods for making movies to really have hands-on learning. I have asked for craft supplies to create characters or figurines. The craft supplies include chenille stems, feathers, pom-poms and craft sticks. The other resources I'm requesting are homework folders and tools to keep our homework organized so that it makes it home to be done.

This project not only allows students to get more differentiation inside the classroom, but it also allow my students to become technology literate.

Our world is advancing quickly in the area of technology. My students need these resources to help them have the skills necessary to compete for jobs in the real world. This exposure to technology at such a young age will foster technology literacy. The homework folders ensure that students are taught responsibility at a young age.
