My students need 24 more books added to their classroom library, 3 Tascam audio recorders and a Snowball microphone to edit and produce their own original podcasts.
Writing is a vital tool needed to fully participate in society. My writing students will be mastering the art of writing through developing, writing, editing and producing their own podcasts in which they will tell their stories. Additionally, my classroom library desperately needs new books.
My students are avid readers whose appetites are never sated.
Additionally, I have 3 writing intervention classes of students who are in need of extra practice with meaningful writing. My school is a Title I school, where the majority of students are from the surrounding neighborhood. My students are brimming with cultural wealth that needs to be shared with the world, and I hope through writing, they will be able to share their gifts with a vast amount of people through podcasting and storytelling.
My Project
Aside from reading the newly added books from an array of backgrounds and informational sets, my writing intervention students will be able to develop, write, edit and produce a podcast in which they will tell their story. They will use the requested Tascam audio recorders and Snowball microphone to accomplish this goal. My writing intervention students will get a meaningful experience with writing in which they will truly create something powerful, that will live forever. My students will understand the power and agency created through the mastery of writing.
When a writer understands his or her power, the world opens up to allow them to take control of their situation, and ultimately change their world.
