Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have never seen such an incredible joy and excitement in students for literature as I've seen with my 6th grade students. They love to read! They love reading so much that they are already running out of books from our classroom library to read at their grade level.

My students are hard-working 6th graders that attend a charter school in an area that has very low graduation and literacy rates.

My students come to school ten hours a day and spend nearly two hours on homework to give themselves a better future. This hard work has paid off. Their reading levels have dramatically increased.

My Project

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss. My school uses a revolutionary online reading program that allows our students to read grade-level books from a wide variety of genres, take quizzes to demonstrate comprehension, and track grade level growth as they progress as readers. This program gives us our students the opportunity to make incredible gains in their reading level and comprehension of what they're reading. The only problem is that my students are so determined to grow that they read through our books at an incredible pace, and for their growth to continue, we need more engaging books at their level. That's a great problem to have, right? And you can be part of the solution! I am requesting sets of fiction books with high interest and low levels to support my most struggling readers.

If you're on this website searching to fund projects, chances are you've heard of the achievement gap.

Some say that the achievement gap is a literacy gap, and I'm one such individual. Through funding this project, you are giving my students the opportunity to grow as readers. When you give my students the opportunity to grow as readers, you are improving not only their reading abilities, but also their success in all subjects as they prepare to be leaders in college and beyond.
