My students need access to as many kinds of books (25 titles) as possible in order to accommodate their widely divergent literary tastes and reading levels.

My Students

Students that are reading on grade level need to read at least thirty minutes per day to maintain that level; those that aren't quite there yet need to read even more every day. They need books to do this, and they need books that hold their interest.

My kids are from a variety of different backgrounds and have a wide range of interests.

The more varied the reading materials I have to offer, the better! We are working on becoming a community of readers through our class blog, but we need access to more books. The school we attend is housed in a building with four other schools; we all share the same library. The library is small, and its reading selections are out of date.

My Project

The more books we have to discuss on our blog, the more likely we are to sustain our reading and our discussions. I've chosen some books that I know, but I've also selected titles that I've never read based on what I know of my students and their tastes.

In this era of "data driven instruction" with so much emphasis placed on testing and numbers and passing students in order to make "Adequate Yearly Progress," I need your help to ensure that my students become more than test scores.

I want them to become genuine lovers of reading and writing. Thank you.
