My Students

According to Para Publishing, 1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives. As an English teacher and a reader, these numbers haunt me. Would you join me in the journey of providing students with the gift of loving to read again? Your support means so much!

I teach English II to a wonderful group of sophomores at a high school in Texas.

When I introduced our RICH Reading program this semester, I was not sure how they would respond, and whether they would like it or hate it. And now? They read every free moment I give them! They want to take books home! I have to ask them to stop reading so we can do class work! Please contribute to this project and support students who love to read and want more new materials to enjoy! Your support will mean so much!

My Project

After the 1st 9 weeks of reading, I gathered feedback from students on what other books they would like to see in RICH Reading. The books I selected are the result of that feedback. Your gift will put books in the hands of students who are hungry for more and more wonderful books to read! I have seen my students increase their reading comprehension levels, become better writers, and love reading again! I even have students tell me about how they've discovered "genres" of books they didn't know existed, and how they believe that they could now become authors themselves! By simply reading, they are gaining the lifelong gift of loving to read and write.

Many students are leaving high school and college and never reading again.

They have lost the joy of reading, and therefore their reading levels are low. What's the best way to change that? Allow students to read materials on their level, and materials that they are interested in! It's amazing to watch students fall in love with reading again! Your donation will only help us more!
