My Students

Can you imagine not being able to read, write or convey what you want to someone else at the age of fifteen? Well my students face that everyday. Many have been out of school for years and living on the street, now is there chance to succeed because they are back in school.

My students are emotionally and learning disabled due to physical abuse, sexual abuse and or neglect.

They have been on the streets just trying to survive, but now they are place in a residential setting where we are to provide them with their everyday needs and education. Many feel they can not succeed and are afraid to try because of constant disappointment. These are the kids that if we don't catch now they will be part of the system for the rest of their lives. So let's stop this cycle now.

My Project

I am requesting a video camera to use in my classroom. There are many reasons for the camera. First I want to record my students reading to others and aloud, so they can hear and see their tone and composure. They are often reading at very low reading level and do not understand what they are missing so being able to see and hear themselves would definitely help. Secondly, I want to use the camera to help them with public speaking. My students lack self confidence and that is always acts as a deterrent to effective public speaking. Public speaking will help in building up their confidence and this is done by enhancing a person's specific skill sets to generate maximum impact and they can see themselves in action. Videoing the students will also help them see their characteristics, abilities and qualities that will be used to create a unique public speaking style which can help them in the future with the job market and marketing themselves.

My students need every advantage possible to make it in this world.

So teaching them to read, write and speak is the most important thing I can do for them. I have seen video cameras used to build on character, poise and confidence. This is what I want to do for my students.
