My Students

As my first graders begin to build reading fluency, listening to reading helps them develop tone and inflection, while allowing them to grow in understanding of words and stories.

My first grade students live in a small, rural town in southern Missouri.

The vast majority of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch and face many struggles at home. But my students come to school every day ready to learn. They are an energetic and caring bunch of students who are continuously working hard in school!

My Project

Listening to a recorded book is fun, and it aids my students in their goal to become better readers. My students need a wide variety of stories to choose from, and the "Student Read Along Library" will help expand our classroom selections. A storage case will allow us to organize current materials so students can quickly and independently find the books and CDs they need.

Building better readers is not just about mechanics, but also the pure pleasure of being immersed in a good story.

Listening to recorded books will enhance vocabulary, build fluency, and aid in understanding. We need a classroom listening library to help ignite a lifelong love of reading for all students.
