My students need a set of chapter books CDs to expose them to different types of literature and expand their reading skills.

My Students

When I was growing up, I was exposed to chapter books by authors such as Judy Blume, E.B. White, and Beverly Cleary. When I started teaching I noticed that my students had no clue about the chapter books these and other great authors have written. If I don't expose them to these authors who will?

My students attend a Georgia title one school and come from either a suburban to low income neighborhood.

The school is majority African American and Hispanic. However it seems as if every year the school is faced more and more with the challenge of teaching our Hispanic population.

My Project

I am requesting ONLY one set of the chapter books on cd which includes Beverly Cleary, E.B. White, and Judy Blume chapter books from Lakeshore Learning Center. These books will be a great excuse to start literature circles in my classroom and at the same time expose my students to literature that will expand their reading skills and knowledge of books by these authors. I'm sure they will want to pick up other books by these authors after being exposed to them through generous donations. These books will give my students practice in learning how to relate to real life events that often can be related to through characters in a book. The books will also provide my students with information needed for reading, writing, and oral activities that I will assign using the literacy circle activity book that I have.

This project is so important to me because I believe in literacy.

I want all of my students to be exposed to the great books that I had the opportunity to read and develop a love for reading outside of picture books. Some of them will never have the opportunity to read these types of books if I don't try to get them for them.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
