When you walk into a classroom what do you hear? There may be students answering, laughing, working, reading, and hopefully you hear these at some point: rat a tat, splash, squeeze, and whoosh. Those are the sounds of true creativity.
My 17 third grade students are creative and joyous.
They take recycled cereal boxes and turn them into beautiful art sketchbooks. Recently we ran out of glue sticks. Our classroom is in a low income community. This year we cut the classroom supply list, to help our families out. Things like glue sticks, staples, and colored pens help us create projects that help our learning come to life and are needed in our classroom. More than ever, we need these creative projects to help our hard topics resonate.
My Project
We are requesting art supplies such as glue, tape, staples, glitter, pens, and pencils. In every unit, in every classroom subject area, there are chances for creativity and design. My students love to create, they simply need to be given the materials to do so. Art is not something that can be taught in one 50 minute block, but instead needs to be incorporated in every subject. Without art and creativity math, language arts, science, and social studies become dull and boring subjects.
By donating you will be restoring items to our classroom that should have never went away.
These items are necessary to the growth and learning adventure of every student. Without these materials our classroom won't be a classroom.
