My students need non-fiction books, including a set of Eyewitness readers and several themed book libraries, because my classroom library is very slim in this first year of teaching!

My Students

Can you imagine getting hired to teach a classroom of 21 students one week before the first day of school? Well, that is what happened to me! Although I am grateful for the job and incredibly passionate about teaching, I didn't have the luxury of preparing a classroom library for my students.

The students in my classroom are quite different than other students in classrooms I have observed.

They are bright, eager to learn, and love school! The majority of my students love to read to learn! Therefore, they are interested in mainly non-fiction books where they can read about animals, weather, and people. They get very excited when they learn how tornadoes form, how animals catch their prey, and how Martin Luther King changed the world!

My Project

Having non-fiction books in the classroom will not only benefit the students but it will also benefit myself in being able to use these resources to teach reading lessons. As I previously mentioned, books about weather are very intriguing, and I can use student interest to further engage my readers and learners to get maximum benefits!

I will also be able to use these books to integrate science and social studies in reading lessons.
